Ingredients To Use On Melasma And Discoloration

Ingredients To Use On Melasma And Discoloration
Hello, gorgeous! Cody here with Montarbo Skin Care in San Diego. Here to help you have the most healthy, glowing and gorgeous skin possible.

Today’s video comes by request from some viewers and clients. The products I’m using are from Montarbo Skin Care but you can use any products that contain similar ingredients to help lighten melasma and discoloration. I listed a few brand below that I trust. Yes, they cost a bit more, but I know they work.

I will show what products and Ingredients I used, when I use them and why.

When it comes to lightening stubborn melasma and discoloration, you may need to see a Doctor for a stronger prescription of ingredients like 4% hydroquinone or Retin-A, or get a chemical peel first.

I offer these powerful ingredients at Montarbo too and will list a link so you can check them out.

It’s important to remember that skin irregularities like melasma are often hormonal or can be brought on by genetics, antibiotics, birth control or a bad sunburn from childhood. Melasma is something that you want to lighten as much as possible before it gets darker but it will also need to be maintained.

Unfortunately, there is no cure. I wish! Also, lasers like IPL are not alway the best solution because they can activate an inflammatory reaction causing the melanocytes to produce more pigment from the heat response.

Hers are all the products I used by Montarbo listed in order:

1. Illuminating Lift Lactic Treatment by Montarbo. This is a powerful yet gentle exfoliator with Lactic acid that instantly brightens and tightens the skin and allows other products to penetrate deeper into the discoloration so you can get better results. Here is a link to it just in case: http://ift.tt/2GutHnI

2. Beauty Elixir by Montarbo. This is my fav. It’s really impressive in its ability to brighten, protect and nourish unhealthy and discolored skin. What I love most about this product is that it has so many ingredients that are proven to nourish the skin and you feel it working right away. It will help prevent free radical damage, deeply moisturize and infuse your skin with nutrients like vitamin B, E, and C which minimizes inflammation from heat and sun damage. Here is a link if you are curious:

3. The last products I used is called Precision Brightening Treatment by Montarbo. It has 2% hydroquinone with glycolic. This is my go-to for keeping my current discoloration at bay and for keeping my overall complexion flawless and bright anytime I go into the sun. I use this product at night all over my face then add it to the areas I’m prone to and paranoid about getting discoloration. It also helps minimize Post-Inflammation- Hyperpigmentation and ance spots. I put a link below so you can check it out if you need more clarity.

Okay, here is a list of the ingredients I used and recommend using to help minimize melasma and discoloration:

1. Lactic or glycolic acid cleanser or toner. Both open up the skin and exfoliate the top layer of skin helping the next products penetrate deeper into the skin. Use at night only. Don’t try to go to strong to quickly because you can cause more discoloration or your melasma to appear darker.

2. Hydroquinone, kojic acid, alpha arbutin or licorice. They are listed in the order of strongest to lightest. HQ is by far the best and most researched. The others are great at brightening the skin but are not as strong. Usually, in a good product, theses ingredients are listed at the very top of the ingredient list so they are stronger and are combined to help hit melasma at several intersections in the dermal layer. They all help to safely brighten melasma and discoloration and more importantly, help to inhibit more melanin production in the future which is necessary. If you have tried these ingredients in the past without much hope, then you can prep your skin with lactic or glycolic i mentioned or you may need to see a professional. Melasma is very stubborn.

3. Vitamin C with L-ascorbic acid is best or sodium sorbitol phosphate which is a fatty chain C that penetrates the skin while brightening. L-ascorbic is my go to, but I use both.
Both are important for fighting free radical damage and helping to brighten and exfoliate the discoloration and melasma. Warning! Most vitamin C serums are crap and don’t do much. Please do you research and do not believe everything you read on a product label.

Below are a few brands I trust:
1. Obagi
2. Skin Ceuticals
3. The Perfect Bleach by the Perfect Peel
As always,
Stay gorgeous!
