Are all lotions the same? Why so many types?

Are all lotions the same? Why so many types?
Just looking at my house all of the lotions I could find. Some were purchased, some were gifts, and some were samples. From left to right.

Burt’s Bee’s Coconut Foot Creme
Burt’s Bee’s Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream
Cetaphil Therapeutic Hand Cream
Glysomed Hand Cream
Gold Bond Hydrating Cream Ultimate Men’s Essentials for the Body, Hands and Face
Neostrata Bionic Lotion
Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion
Bath and Beyond Cherry Blossom Triple Moisture Cream
Vaseline Total Moisture Conditioning Body Lotion
Bath and Beyond Shea and Vitamin E Body Lotion
CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion
Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer
Jergens Overnight Repair
Afta aftershave lotion

Don’t all lotions and cream moisturize dry and itchy skin? Why are there different kinds for the time of day, and body parts? Is moisturizer any different from moisturizing lotion or just plain lotion? What happens if I use foot lotion on my face, or aftershave lotion on my hand?
